Although we’re a mixed-culture family, and Sinterklaas is a very dutch habit, we decided that it is a part of our lives, for the children. We also decided to keep it small, as we like christmas better. Yesterday evening the kids were allowed to place their shoes (schoentje zetten) close to the fireplace in reach of Zwarte Piet coming down through the chimney. And their faces, C’s especially, was priceless. Glad we did it. Tonight there will be some small presents to celebrate Sinterklaas’s birthday, as it is tradition in the Netherlands.
